Participants of the course attended the field trip to geothermal
fields and geothermal power plants in Tohoku area and the National
Institues at Tsukuba from September 17 to 22. During this trip,
we visited the Sumikawa, Onuma and Matsukawa geothermal power
plants. Other than these plants, we also visited Goshogake geothermal
field located near the Onuma power plant. Participants enjoyed
a walk at Hachimantai from where a grand view of Mt.Iwate, active
volcano, was obtained.
We visited National Institute for Resources and Environment(NIRE)
and Geological Survey of Japan (GSJ) for the last two days. Research
results on development of hot dry rock system were given to the
participants at NIRE. Other topics on environmental studies such
as soil contamination and development of quartz sensor for detecting
dioxine were also introduced.
Overview of geothermal studies at GSJ was given as well as
other specific studies such as fracture hydrology characterization,
fluid inclusion studies, geological information systems. International
geothermal cooperation project at GSJ was also introduced.
Particpants enjoyed a nice geological musium at GSJ as well.
Staff of the training course and the participants thank Mr.Hatakenaka
and Mr.Ariki of Mitsubishi Materials Co., Mr.Kotanaka of Japan
Metals and Chemicals Co., Mr.Ozeki of Geo-Engineering Co, Mr.Matsunaga
of NIRE, and Mr.Shigeno of GSJ for their kind support during
our visit to the plants and the institutes. |
