The training course in Geothermal Energy and Environmental
Sciences has been conducted at Kyushu University, Japan, since
2000 as one of the course organized and financed by Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA) of the Japanese Government.
The course was originally started in 1970 as the general course
on geothermal energy and closed in 1989 after twenty years operation,
which accepted 272 participants from 32 countries. Then, the
course was upgraded to the advanced course in geothermal energy
and lasted for ten years until 1999. A total of 98 engineers
and scientists from 16 countries participated in the course.
Duration of the present course is four months, starting early
August and finishing early December. The course consists of lectures,
study tours, and project studies. Faculty member, engineers of
private companies and scientists of national institutes give
lectures for the first six weeks at Kyushu University. They teach
geothermal geology, geochemistry and environmental chemistry,
geothermics, exploration geophysics, reservoir engineering, and
thermodynamics, etc. After completion of lectures, each participant
is assigned to a laboratory for a project study, which is supervised
by faculty member. The programs are carried out in English.
Participants have to write a report on their project study
and submit it at the end of the course. Upon completion of the
course, participants receive certificates both from Kyushu University
and JICA. |
