Arata Kioka
Department of Earth Resources Engineering
Overview
Arata Kioka (喜岡 新) is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Earth Resources Engineering, Kyushu University, Japan. He earned a Sc.D. degree in the Earth and Planetary Science from The University of Tokyo in Summer 2016. Arata joined Kyushu University in Summer 2019, after postdoctoral research at Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute (AORI) of The University of Tokyo where he had been a student in 2011–2016, Lomonosov Moscow State University in Summer–Fall 2016, and the University of Innsbruck in 2016–2019. Arata is broadly interested in the Earth and Planetary Surface Processes, Discrete Mechanics, and Colloid & Interface Science, through a combination of approaches, including experiment, numerical computation, theoretical studies, data processing, and sea-going observations.

Research Interests
I am broadly interested in the Earth and Planetary Surface Processes, Discrete Mechanics, and Colloid & Interface Science, including but not limited to: nanobubbles, geocryology, oceanic trenches/hadal trenches, granular media, turbulent combustion, and submarine mud volcanism. My current projects combine different disciplines and methodologies, including experiments, numerical computation, theoretical studies, data processing, and sea-going observations.
I am always seeking for Early Career Researchers (Postdocs and Graduate students) enthusiastic about (Geo)cryology, Granular Media, Interface science, Marine Geoscience, or (Geo)science/(Geo)engineering in general, to have fun in working their new and challenging studies with me. If you would like to join the amazing Kyushu University, please find more information on the Admission webpages (e.g., JSPS Fellowships and University) and email me.
